Damage Surveys
The purpose of
a damage survey is to protect the interests of the
clients, by ensuring that the technical and practical
bases for claims for damage, loss, or mismanagement of
ship, machinery or cargo are genuine. Often an Allswater
surveyor will approve the repair specification, where
appropriate, and the costs, with out prejudice to
liability.
Condition and Valuation Surveys
Condition and Valuation Surveys are required to obtain
insurance and/or finance or required by solicitors or
financial institutions with regard to probate or other
matters
The survey has two primary purposes (1) to identify the
vessel, its equipment, condition and general value, and
(2) to identify defects, damages or hazardous conditions
that pose a potential threat to the safety of the vessel
and its passengers, or any other such condition that is
likely to result in loss or damage.
On and Off Hire
Surveys
These surveys are conducted on behalf of ship owners or
charters to record the "as is" condition of a ship. The
surveys deal predominately with assessing the condition of
the structure, machinery, fittings and consumables.
Cargo Loading &
Stowage Surveys
The intention of this type of survey is to report on the
exact condition of the cargo before loading, make sure
that the exact condition of the cargo on loading is
specified on the bills of lading, and that due care has
been taken in preparing the ship for the cargo. These
types of concerns are of interest since they impact upon
achieving the maximum protection of the cargo and thus
loss prevention.
Voyage & Towage
Approval (warranty Survey)
Generally Towage Approval Surveys look at the following
aspects: the tug, the connection, the route, and the tow
itself but the criteria applied may be different. When
faced with insuring a tow project, the underwriter may
feel happier if he knows that a competent surveyor has
physically inspected the tug and tow and approved the
arrangements.
Safety Audits
Marine safety audits for commercial vessels are conducted
in order to establish, document, implement, maintain and
continually improve the vessel management system.
Total Loss
Investigation
Total Loss investigations are conducted in the event of
constructive or absolute total loss of the insured
commercial or pleasure craft. In the event that there is
part of the vessel remains, it may be examined in an
effort to determine the cause of the loss, and evaluate
salvage costs.
Draft Surveys
Draft surveys are normally
conducted on behalf of shippers or receivers, in order to
establish quantities of bulk cargoes loaded, or
discharged. The surveyors may be called upon by Chatterers
and Ship owners seeking to confirm the aforementioned
quantities by independent means in order to resolve
disputes. |
